Case Study: Subway Sandwiches Cloud Video Surveillance

Cloud Video Surveillance:

A Recipe for Success at Subway

Subway prides itself on offering fresh, customizable sandwiches, a tradition that started in 1965 when Fred DeLuca and Peter Buck opened the first Subway (originally named “Pete’s Super Submarines”) in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Today, with thousands of franchisee-owned locations across the U.S., how do multi-store owners stay hands-on and maintain Subway’s standards when they can’t possibly be two places at once? The answer is with a cloud video surveillance solution.

“With 5 locations and more than 25 cameras keeping an eye on my businesses, Eyewatch AI’s solution is a perfect fit,” says Jay Patel, Owner/Area Manager of multiple Subway locations in South Carolina. “It’s easy to set up, requires no specialized on-site hardware, and I’m able to use the cameras I want, including Axis and Hanwha Techwin.”

Previously, Patel was using another system that wasn’t working for his business. The video footage lacked clarity, and servers were constantly failing. Patel reached out to an approved Eyewatch AI reseller and quickly upgraded his surveillance with a modern video surveillance as a service (VSaaS) solution.

“When you own multiple locations and travel as much as Jay does, a traditional in-house CCTV system is too outdated and disconnected from modern ways of doing business,” said Kayne Kaye, VP Sales, Eyewatch AI. “And what good is the system if someone steals or destroys the DVR? By leveraging cloud video surveillance, we not only give the customer secure storage in the cloud, but the video is always available.”

Each Subway location has up to 15 employees, with half usually comprised of part-time staff, including students. Patel uses Eyewatch AI’s Multiview on-demand solution to simultaneously monitor multiple stores. With one interface, he can visually check on everything from staff efficiency at the sandwich station to proper use of equipment, customer flow, and whether employees are following health and safety guidelines.

Managers are able to analyze and compare traffic at different stores, provide tips on improving customer satisfaction, allocate staff where they are most needed, and even identify the most productive team members.

Subway has been using Eyewatch AI’s VSaaS solution very successfully for over two years across all five locations. The system has helped foil attempted robberies, stop theft in action, and improve overall customer service. It has also provided 24/7/365 protection for the stores. With always-on, real-time access from virtually anywhere, Eyewatch AI’s solution gives Jay Patel peace of mind, knowing his locations are secure and well-managed.
